Kolkata, April 3: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called upon all communities to celebrate Ram Navami on April 6 peacefully, urging people not to fall for rumours and to remain alert.

Addressing the media from the state secretariat on Wednesday, Banerjee appealed for communal harmony and indirectly criticized the BJP, referring to it as a "jumla" (empty promise) outfit allegedly intent on creating religious division.

"Peace Must Prevail During Ram Navami": Mamata Banerjee

“I urge all communities to maintain peace during Ram Navami. Please don’t pay attention to any rumours and remain vigilant,” the Chief Minister said.

She cautioned the public against participating in communal disturbances, stating, “I request you not to get involved in any riots. Remember, it’s their (BJP’s) game plan. In Bengal, we follow the teachings of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda, not that of the Jumla party.”

Appeals for Religious Unity

Emphasizing the spirit of inclusiveness, Banerjee reiterated that while religion is personal, festivals are for everyone.

“Sikhs take out rallies with kirpans. Others can do the same, but they must follow police protocols and avoid causing any trouble,” she said, highlighting the need for compliance with law enforcement guidelines during celebrations.

She also stated that she would be attending a Jain community programme on April 9, reinforcing her message of interfaith harmony.

FIR Filed Over False Resignation Rumour

Banerjee addressed a circulating rumour claiming she had resigned from the Chief Minister’s post.

“They spread a rumour that I resigned. This is completely false. They’ve been spreading fake news using digital media. We have filed an FIR in the matter,” she informed reporters.

Criticism of Left Parties' Alleged BJP Ties

Taking a swipe at Left parties, the Trinamool Congress chief accused some leaders of aligning with the BJP ahead of elections.

“I respect many in the Left, but not those who befriend the BJP during elections. Don’t mistake saffronisation for your ideology — or you’ll disappear into thin air,” Banerjee warned.

As the state gears up for Ram Navami celebrations, Banerjee’s statements underline a firm stance against communal disruption and digital misinformation, with a renewed push for peaceful, inclusive festivities across West Bengal.
