Gwalior, May 12 — A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district for allegedly impersonating a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, a falsehood he maintained even with his own family, police said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Rahul Singh Jatav, is a native of Khidarpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district. He reportedly began posing as BSF personnel after failing to clear the BSF recruitment examination in 2022.

According to officials, Jatav was apprehended in Makoda village near the Tekanpur BSF Academy under the jurisdiction of Bilaua police station. His suspicious behaviour and uniform prompted police to question him during routine checks.

“Jatav was wearing a BSF uniform but failed to produce a valid identity card when questioned. He initially claimed that the uniform belonged to his brother,” said Ila Tandon, officer-in-charge of Bilaua police station.

Further interrogation revealed that Jatav had been masquerading as a BSF jawan ever since his failed recruitment attempt, even deceiving his family members into believing he had joined the force.

He has been arrested under Section 205 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to fraudulently wearing a public servant’s uniform or insignia.

Police are currently investigating how he obtained the BSF uniform and whether he exploited his false identity to defraud anyone.
