Ahmedabad, Feb 26: Gujarat Police has apprehended another individual in connection with the alleged hacking of a hospital’s CCTV network, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to seven. The accused, identified as Rohit Sisodia from Delhi, was involved in converting hacked CCTV footage into QR codes and selling them for illicit online distribution, the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch revealed on Wednesday.
The case, which came to light on February 17, involved the unauthorized access and circulation of video footage from the labour room of a Rajkot-based maternity hospital. The hacked footage was allegedly shared on subscription-only YouTube and Telegram channels, prompting a cybercrime investigation.
Among those previously arrested is Parit Dhamelia, a commerce graduate from Surat, who is accused of hacking into the hospital’s CCTV system and sharing the footage with Sisodia. Sisodia reportedly converted the videos into QR codes before selling them to Prajwal Taily, a resident of Latur, Maharashtra, and other co-accused individuals. Some of these clips were subsequently shared on three YouTube channels, one of which was operated by Taily. The videos’ descriptions contained links to a Telegram group where members were charged ₹2,000 per video.
The investigation further revealed that Dhamelia, along with accomplice Rayan Perera, allegedly hacked into approximately 50,000 CCTV systems across hospitals, offices, schools, colleges, and even private residences.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, Lavina Sinha, all seven accused have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal conspiracy and voyeurism, as well as Section 66(f)(2) of the Information Technology Act for cyber terrorism.
Authorities are continuing their probe into the network to identify any additional individuals involved in the scandal.
