Faridabad, May 10 – In a shocking act of violence triggered by a long-standing domestic dispute, a man was arrested for allegedly shooting his mother-in-law in the Nangla Enclave area of Faridabad, police confirmed on Saturday.The victim, Rita Giri, sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have confirmed that she is out of danger.
Allegations of Harassment and Assault
As per the FIR registered at Saran police station, the incident stems from a troubled marriage between Priyanka and the accused, Ramveer, who were married in 2009. Giri stated in her complaint that her daughter had been subjected to persistent harassment and physical abuse by Ramveer over the years.Due to the abuse, Priyanka left Ramveer and began living with her mother. She also initiated a maintenance case against him, which allegedly intensified tensions.
Accused Allegedly Issued Threats Before Attack
Giri alleged that Ramveer had repeatedly pressured them to withdraw the legal case and had issued threats. On Friday night, he reportedly broke into their home and shot her in the stomach before fleeing the scene.“My family rushed me to the hospital and informed the police,” Giri stated in her complaint.
Accused Arrested Within 24 Hours
Police acted swiftly on the complaint and arrested Ramveer within 24 hours of the incident. During interrogation, he claimed that he and Priyanka had a love marriage and blamed her mother for causing rifts in their relationship. He stated that the couple had frequent quarrels, which led to Priyanka moving out.A Faridabad police spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing to determine how Ramveer acquired the firearmused in the crime.
Authorities are treating the case with utmost seriousness, and further legal proceedings are expected following the completion of the investigation.
