Two Cases Registered After Flag Was Removed Twice From Telangana Secretariat
Hyderabad, May 17 — A man has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly removing the national flag of Israel, which the Telangana government installed at the state Secretariat as part of the ongoing Miss World 2025 pageant festivities, police said on Saturday.According to police officials, the Israeli flag was taken down on two separate occasions during the week, prompting the registration of two distinct cases.
First Incident Reported on May 12
The first case was registered on May 12, following a complaint by a woman police officer. Acting on information circulated via social media, she inspected the designated area and discovered that the Israeli flag was missing. Authorities subsequently installed a replacement flag.Second Incident Leads to Arrest
A second case was lodged on May 16 after another police official reported that the flag had again gone missing, this time on May 14.During the investigation, police arrested a man identified as Zakir, a bike mechanic by profession, in connection with the May 16 case. Officials confirmed that Zakir had allegedly posted a video of the act on social media platforms, which helped in tracing and apprehending him.
Probe Continues into Motive and Others' Involvement
Police noted that so far, only Zakir has been found involved in the second incident. However, the motive behind his actions and the possible involvement of others remain under active investigation.Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the individual responsible for the first flag removal incident reported on May 12.
