Crime Branch Nabs Accused in Mankhurd; Nine SIM Cards Seized
Mumbai, May 17 – Mumbai Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly selling SIM cards of multiple telecom operators without adhering to mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, a senior police official confirmed on Saturday.The accused, Yusuf Ali Abdulkayum Syed, was apprehended in the Mankhurd suburb following a tip-off received by the crime branch. Acting swiftly, the police deployed decoy customers to verify the allegations before moving in for the arrest on Friday.
During the operation, authorities recovered nine SIM cards from different telecom companies, all reportedly being sold without proper verification or collection of customer documents, as required under KYC regulations.
The police have launched a further investigation to determine the extent of the illegal activity and whether more individuals or entities are involved in the racket.
This crackdown highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the misuse of mobile services and ensure compliance with national security protocols.
