Police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act over a viral Facebook video
Etah, Uttar Pradesh, May 11 – A man has been booked by the police in Etah for allegedly posting objectionable and provocative content on social media related to Operation Sindoor, an Indian military operation, officials confirmed on Sunday.According to Sub-Inspector Karam Veer Singh, the incident came to light during his patrol duty on May 10, when a video from a Facebook account under the name Vikky Khan, also known as Sahil Khan, went viral. The video allegedly contained offensive remarks targeting Operation Sindoor, as well as comments against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“There were insulting remarks made against Operation Sindoor carried out against Pakistan. The video also included derogatory statements about the BJP, sparking public outrage and attempting to disturb national unity,” Singh stated in his complaint.
Following the complaint, the Kasganj police station registered a case under Section 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to assertions prejudicial to national integration, and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
Authorities have collected screenshots and technical evidence related to the viral post, with the local cyber cell assisting in the investigation. Police have assured that the accused will be arrested shortly.
