Shimla, May 11 – Police in Shimla have registered a case against a man for allegedly setting an image of the Pakistan national flag as his display picture on WhatsApp, triggering legal action under provisions related to promoting enmity and harming national integration.

According to officials, the accused, Adil Magre, is originally from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir and has been residing near Lakkar Bazar in Shimla since 2016. He is employed by a private gas agency operating in the capital of Himachal Pradesh.

The police stated that Magre has been booked under Sections 196 and 197(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These sections pertain to inciting enmity based on religion, language, caste, race, or community, and making assertions that could harm national integration.

Authorities confirmed that the case was registered after the display picture drew public attention and was deemed sensitive from a national security standpoint. Further investigations are underway.
