Police Crack Down on Social Media Misuse Amid Heightened National Security Concerns

Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), May 10 – A man was arrested on Saturday in Muzaffarnagar for allegedly posting content in support of Pakistan on his WhatsApp status, officials confirmed. The action comes amid a broader crackdown on online activities perceived to threaten national security and communal harmony.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjai Kumar stated that a formal case was registered against the accused following the controversial social media post. “A case was registered against a man for posting content in support of Pakistan on his WhatsApp status,” he said in a statement.

In a separate incident, another individual, Anwar Jamil, was arrested on Friday evening after a video surfaced online showing him allegedly raising the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad.” The video quickly drew public attention and police intervention.

Jamil has reportedly told authorities that the video was recorded a long time ago by a friend and that the slogans were shouted as part of a bet. Despite the claim, police proceeded with legal action in light of the sensitive nature of the content.

Authorities reiterated that a special cyber patrolling and monitoring campaign is currently in effect to identify and act against individuals sharing misleading or provocative content online. The initiative is being carried out to uphold communal peace and prevent any actions that might compromise national security.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) had earlier urged citizens to rely solely on verified information and avoid sharing unverified or inflammatory content on social media platforms.

Police have appealed to the public to act with responsibility and refrain from posting or circulating any content that could spark unrest or disturb harmony in the community.
