Thrissur (Kerala), Feb 4 (PTI) – A man tragically lost his life after being gored by an elephant that went on a rampage during a temple festival in Elavally, Thrissur district, on Tuesday, police confirmed.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Anand, had reportedly visited the festival for business purposes. The incident unfolded while the elephant was being bathed. According to the Pavaratty police, the elephant suddenly became agitated and attacked Anand, causing fatal injuries.

In a separate development, the elephant's mahout also sustained serious injuries in the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

The elephant, which had been brought in for the temple event, ran amok, moving uncontrollably into a nearby residential area. Efforts by the elephant squad and other mahouts to restrain the animal were unsuccessful, as it continued its rampage before being subdued, police said.

Authorities are investigating the incident further.
