Man suspected of firing at shop in Kota shoots himself dead after police knock on his door

Kota (Rajasthan), Feb 2 (PTI) – A man wanted in connection with a recent shooting incident in Kota allegedly shot himself dead on Sunday after police surrounded the house where he was hiding, officials confirmed.

The suspect, identified as Rudresh (24), along with three associates, had opened fire at a betel shop on January 26 after the shopkeeper refused to bring cigarettes to their car. The reckless attack left Pavan Singh, the shop owner’s brother, critically injured with a bullet wound to his chest. He is currently receiving treatment at New Medical College Hospitalin Kota.

Police Operation Ends in Tragic Suicide

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lokendra Paliwal, authorities received a tip-off about Rudresh’s whereabouts and tracked him to a house in Naya Nohara, under Borekheda police station limits. Acting swiftly, police reached the location and found his vehicle parked outside, confirming his presence inside the house.

Police immediately cordoned off the area and attempted to make contact, knocking on the door. However, Rudresh did not respond. Moments later, a gunshot rang out from inside. Upon forcibly entering the house, officers discovered Rudresh lying in a pool of blood, having apparently taken his own life.

Weapons Recovered, Investigation Continues

A pistol and two country-made revolvers were recovered from the room where Rudresh was found, police said. His body will be handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination.

The police have already filed a case against four individuals involved in the January 26 shooting and have arrested one of the accused, identified as Rajneesh Poter. Authorities continue their search for the remaining suspects.

The incident has sparked concern among locals, highlighting the rising menace of gun violence and the urgent need for stricter law enforcement against illegal firearms in the region.
