Mangaluru International Airport Achieves Record Passenger Traffic in FY 2024-25.webp

2.32 Million Passengers Handled, Surpassing Pre-COVID Levels

Mangaluru International Airport has achieved its highest-ever annual passenger traffic, handling 2.32 million passengers in the financial year 2024-25, marking a significant milestone in its operational history. The airport witnessed a 15.34 percent increase in passenger footfall compared to the 2.01 million recorded in FY 2023-24.

This growth also represents a 24.1 percent surge from the pre-pandemic levels of FY 2019-20, reflecting a strong rebound in domestic and international travel through the coastal city.

Domestic and International Passenger Growth

Of the total passengers handled, 1.61 million were domestic travellers, reflecting a 14.55 percent increase from the previous fiscal. International traffic also grew substantially, rising by 17.15 percent to 7.15 lakh from 6.10 lakh in FY 2023-24.

Compared to FY 2019-20, domestic passenger volume rose by 23.61 percent, while international numbers surged by 25.21 percent, highlighting the airport’s strengthening global connectivity.

Significant Rise in Air Traffic Movements

Air traffic movements (ATMs) at Mangaluru International Airport also thrived. The airport recorded 16,816 ATMs during FY 2024-25, marking an 11.26 percent rise over the previous year’s 15,113. This includes:
  • International ATMs: 4,286, up 22.14 percent from 3,509
  • Domestic ATMs: 12,244, up 8.94 percent from 11,239

Cargo Operations Expand with International Services

Cargo operations also recorded positive momentum. Domestic cargo throughput increased to 3,864.1 metric tonnes (MT), up from 3,706.02 MT in the previous year.

Notably, international cargo operations began in July 2024 and contributed 1,347.07 MT by the end of FY 2024-25. This included 1,346.27 MT of outbound cargo and 0.79 MT of inbound shipments, marking a promising start to cross-border cargo services.

April 2025 Sets Monthly and Daily Records

April 2025 was the airport's busiest month since it commenced operations on October 31, 2020. A total of 2,17,893 passengers—comprising 1,43,117 domestic and 74,776 international travellers—used the facility during the month.

On April 12 alone, the airport recorded its highest-ever single-day passenger count of 8,103, setting a new benchmark in its operational performance.

The continued rise in passenger traffic, air traffic movements, and cargo handling underscores Mangaluru International Airport’s growing significance as a key aviation hub in southern India.
