Manipur Police Denies Attack Rumors Against Chassad Kuki Village.webp

Imphal, February 11 The Manipur Police stated on Wednesday that messages circulating on social media claiming that members of a community were planning to attack the Chassad Kuki village are false, and warned of legal action against those spreading misinformation.

"We have come to notice that certain messages are being circulated on social media platforms alleging that members of a particular community are planning to attack Chassad Kuki Village," the police said in a statement.

"The information is completely false, baseless, and unfounded. Adequate security has been deployed to prevent any incidents," it added.

The police also said that legal action will be initiated against individuals and social media accounts found spreading rumors with the intent to incite fear or disrupt public order.

This clarification came in the wake of clashes between members of the Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities in the Litan area of the Ukhrul district.

Chassad is the largest Kuki village in the Kamjong district, dominated by the Tangkhul Naga, which borders the Ukhrul district.

More than 30 houses have been burnt in the violence in Litan since Sunday evening, prompting authorities to impose a curfew in the area.

Internet services have been suspended for five days, starting Tuesday, in the Ukhrul district and the neighboring Phungyar subdivision of the Kamjong district, as well as the Lhungtin subdivision of the Kangpokpi district.

On Wednesday, the situation remained tense in Ukhrul, though no fresh firing or hostilities were reported.
