Maoist splinter group head arrested in Jharkhand

Latehar (Jharkhand), Feb 3 (PTI) – In a significant crackdown against extremism, Jharkhand police have arrested Rajesh Singh Kherwar, alias Tula, the head of the banned Maoist splinter group Jharkhand Sangharsh Jan Mukti Morcha (JSJMM), in Latehar district.

Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav confirmed on Monday that Kherwar was apprehended from the Cheero Chandwa area under the Chandwa Police Station limits. Following his arrest, he was sent to jail the same day.

During the operation, security forces recovered a country-made revolver, two live cartridges, and two mobile phonesfrom his possession.

Kherwar has a long history of involvement in criminal activities, with 12 cases registered against him across Chandwa, Balumath, and Bishunpur police stations. Authorities revealed that he had been an active member of the banned outfit for over 13 years.

The arrest marks a significant victory for law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to curb Maoist insurgency in Jharkhand. Further investigations are underway.
