Petroleum and Cosmetic Products Fuel Blaze in Wadpe Village
Thane, May 12 – A massive fire engulfed at least 15 godowns in Wadpe village of Bhiwandi, Thane district, in the early hours of Monday, destroying stocks of petroleum, healthcare items, cosmetics, and clothing. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.According to Mahesh Patil, a fire official from the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC), the blaze was first reported around 3 a.m. and quickly spread from one warehouse to several adjacent structures. Some of the affected godowns were reportedly storing petroleum-based products, which intensified the fire and led to a foul-smelling haze in the area.
Three fire engines were deployed to the site, and firefighting teams managed to bring the situation under control by 9 a.m. Cooling operations continued through the morning to prevent any secondary outbreaks.
“The flames were visible from a considerable distance,” said an official at the scene. “The presence of petroleum products significantly worsened the situation.”
Emergency teams are assessing the extent of the damage, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to follow.
