Desilting Drive Near Taimoor Nagar Bridge Triggers Gridlock from New Friends Colony to Ashram
New Delhi, May 15 — A routine desilting operation turned into a traffic nightmare on Thursday evening. Mounds of silt dumped on C V Raman Marg in southeast Delhi caused massive congestion, severely disrupting the evening commute and threatening to affect Friday morning traffic as well.According to Delhi Traffic Police officials, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) began a desilting operation in the Taimoor Nagar drain as part of a post-demolition cleanup initiative. However, the extracted debris was deposited alongside a key bridge on C V Raman Marg, effectively narrowing the crucial arterial road.
“A bulldozer stationed beside the debris further reduced the two-lane stretch to a single operational lane, leading to severe congestion,” a traffic officer stated.
The traffic jam began intensifying around 6 PM, stretching from C V Raman Marg to Mathura Road and Ashram. It spilled into nearby routes and paralysed movement across the Okhla and New Friends Colony sectors.
Commuters traveling toward central and south Delhi from these areas experienced significant delays as the congestion spread across the affected corridors.
Traffic authorities have issued alerts and are coordinating with civic agencies to manage diversions and alleviate pressure in anticipation of a chaotic Friday morning rush.
