Thane Police Nab Rajasthan Man in Major Narcotics Seizure Near Railway Station
Thane, May 12 – In a major drug bust, Thane police have arrested a 48-year-old medical sales representative from Rajasthan for allegedly possessing over Rs 2 crore worth of codeine powder, a banned narcotic substance under Indian law.According to officials from the Anti-Narcotics Cell, the accused, identified as Suresh Parmar, was apprehended during a raid at a hotel near Thane railway station on May 9. The operation was carried out following a tip-off about a suspicious courier consignment.
During the raid, police recovered more than 1 kilogram of codeine in powdered form from Parmar’s possession. The contraband had reportedly arrived via courier from Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
"Codeine is a controlled opiate, and possession without authorization is illegal. The market value of the seized narcotic is estimated to be around Rs 2 crore," an official said.
Parmar, who works in the medical sales industry, has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are now investigating the source of the drug and potential buyers or networks involved in its distribution.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.
