
The Tura Hindu Samshan Bhoomi Committee (THSBC) inaugurated its newly acquired Mortuary Van Service at a ceremony held on February 10 at the Parade Ground, Tura, to provide dignified funeral services. The event was attended by Thomas A. Sangma, Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, as the Chief Guest, who formally dedicated the specialized vehicle, equipped with a refrigerated body box, to the community. In his address, Thomas A. Sangma expressed his happiness and satisfaction that the refrigerated mortuary van would ensure a dignified final journey for the deceased, highlighting the importance of such a facility in the region. He commended the committee's proactive efforts and offered to personally bear the monthly remuneration of the van driver, ensuring the smooth operation of the service. Prabin Panthi, President of THSBC, praised Thomas A. Sangma for his unwavering support to the community, describing him as a pillar of strength for the people of Tura. The service is now officially open to the public with subsidized rates of ₹500 for Tura residents and ₹1,000 for Rongram residents. The program concluded with the formal flag-off of the vehicle.
