
NCP RELEASES FIRST LIST FOR GHADC POLLS
As the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections approach, political parties across the state have intensified their preparations for the upcoming polls. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) released its first list of candidates for the election on Wednesday.
Addressing media persons after a party meeting at the Pinewood Hotel in Shillong, State NCP President and former Kharkutta MLA O.K. Sangma said the party is fully prepared to contest the GHADC election and expressed confidence about its electoral prospects.
He informed that in the first phase, the party has announced candidates for six constituencies, adding that more names will be declared in the coming days.
The candidates announced are: Nikijrang A. Sangma – Selsiggre/Silkigre (subject to confirmation), Senggarm K. Sangma – Siju, Matgrik K. Sangma – Jengjal, Wansil D. Marak – Baghmara, Dringbirik D. Sangma – Bolsong, Babulak Banai Gasuaporg (constituency to be confirmed), Miss Sengimathi M.K. Sangma (constituency to be confirmed).
Sangma stated that the party has been receiving encouraging support from the public and hinted that several leaders and supporters from other political parties are likely to join the NCP ahead of the polls.
PARTY OPEN TO INDUCT FORMER CM MUKUL SANGMA
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has indicated its willingness to welcome former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul A. Sangma into the party fold, stating that its doors remain open to experienced leaders committed to the development of Meghalaya.
Speaking to the media, President of the NCP and former Kharkutta MLA Omillo K. Sangma said the party would be happy to induct Dr. Mukul A. Sangma if he chooses to join. He informed that the NCP is actively working to strengthen its organisational base by bringing in seasoned and capable leaders who can contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress.
Sangma reiterated that the party remains open to leaders from other political parties who are genuinely dedicated to the welfare and advancement of the people of Meghalaya. However, he maintained that the outcome of the upcoming Assembly elections would ultimately depend on the mandate of the electorate. He added that the NCP is focused on consolidating public support as the state prepares for the electoral contest.
Meanwhile, NCP State Youth President Dapkupar Nongrum said the party’s primary objective is to strengthen its organisational structure. He stated that the NCP would welcome Dr. Mukul A. Sangma should he decide to join the party.
Nongrum further said that the party is working diligently to serve the interests and welfare of the people of the state.
