Imphal, Feb 3 (PTI): A militant affiliated with the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) was arrested in Manipur’s Imphal West district, police confirmed on Monday.
The insurgent, identified as 29-year-old Leihaothabam Nanao Sharma, had been actively involved in extorting government employees, shopkeepers, and the general public in the Greater Imphal region, a senior police official stated. Sharma was apprehended at Lamphel supermarket on Sunday following a strategic police operation.
In a separate security operation, law enforcement authorities recovered an empty INSAS rifle magazine and two cartridges from Matajang village and its neighboring areas in Churachandpur district.
Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance in the state to curb insurgent activities and ensure public safety.
