Chennai, February 14. Well-known actress Miya George, who has delivered commendable performances in several Tamil and Malayalam films, has written a post of appreciation for both her mother, who has now rekindled her love for reading, and the author of the book that helped her revive the habit.
On her Instagram page, the actress wrote a lengthy piece titled "Appreciation Post."
She wrote, "My mother got married to my father and had to live in Mumbai for nine years. During those nine years, her way of coping with the new city and maintaining her roots was reading Malayalam weekly magazines. My mother would always read Manorama and Mangalam weekly without fail every week. After moving to Kerala, she became busy raising children, managing her small business, and of course, taking care of the home. In the process, she stopped reading."
The actress further added, "Like many parents, she also became interested in the internet and started spending her time scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. She was happy to see me reading and bringing home new books. She encouraged me to read more. Sometimes, she would casually ask me about the book I was reading or what the story was, but she never bothered to read a book herself."
The actress then recounted an incident that led to a change in her mother.
She said, "A few days ago, I had to travel to Palani for a shoot, and she accompanied me. I was planning to read 'Kambilikandathe Kalbharanikal'... but the shoot was hectic, and I couldn't start. The book was lying in the van. When I returned, I saw her reading, and I complimented her saying, 'Good job'. That night, we returned to the room, and she picked up the book again, saying, 'It's really good'. The next morning, I woke up and saw her sitting by the window, reading. She said, 'The book is interesting. I didn't want to disturb you, that's why I'm reading by the window.'"
The actress stated that her mother finished reading the book in a few hours. She said, "I was happy and shocked to see how quickly she finished the book. For someone who had taken a 30-year gap, finishing the book in one go is simply amazing. The credit goes to you, @abrahambabu2023. The book is so powerful, motivating, moving, and heartwarming. Thank you for writing it. Congratulations to my mom for restarting this good habit. Happy reading."
