MNS Demands Marathi as Primary Language in Banks Across Thane

Activists distribute letters, remove non-Marathi banners in protest

Thane, April 1 — Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists took to banks across Thane district on Tuesday, distributing letters that demanded Marathi be used as the primary language of communication with customers.

The campaign, led by Thane district MNS chief Avinash Jadhav, underscored the party's growing emphasis on linguistic pride. In a symbolic protest, activists also removed a banner outside a city bank that lacked any Marathi text.

“There will be zero tolerance for disrespect towards Marathi by bank officials and employees,” said Jadhav, reinforcing the party’s stance on promoting the regional language in official and customer-facing interactions.

The move follows recent remarks by MNS chief Raj Thackeray during his Gudi Padwa rally, where he reiterated the demand for making Marathi mandatory in official communications throughout the state.

This development marks another chapter in the party’s ongoing efforts to assert the cultural and linguistic identity of Maharashtra.
