NIT Srinagar Concludes Mobile Security Bootcamp

A five-day mobile security bootcamp at NIT Srinagar concluded on Friday, equipping participants with skills to address emerging cyber threats.

February 13, Srinagar: A five-day bootcamp on mobile security concluded on Friday at the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar.

The bootcamp, organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Srinagar in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu, was sponsored by the Information Security Education and Awareness Phase III project of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.

Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti served as the convener of the bootcamp, with Dr. Shaima Qureshi and Dr. Sparsh Sharma as coordinators.

The felicitation ceremony was presided over by Prof. Roohie Naaz, the in-charge director and dean of research and consultancy at NIT Srinagar. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman was the guest of honor.

In her keynote address, Naaz said the bootcamp aimed to combine cutting-edge knowledge, hands-on training, and real-world insights to equip participants with essential skills to address emerging mobile security challenges.

"India has over a billion mobile users, with mobile devices widely used for critical activities such as banking, healthcare, and governance, making mobile security a national priority," she said.

Naaz said the program covered topics including secure app development, threat modeling, encryption protocols, and defense mechanisms against phishing, malware, and supply-chain attacks.

Participants took part in laboratory sessions, real-world case studies, and expert mentoring from faculty members of IIT Jammu, NIT Srinagar, and industry professionals, she added.

She also thanked the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for its support under the ISEA Phase III project, IIT Jammu for its collaboration, and faculty members and participants for their active involvement.

Chishti said the bootcamp drew participants from several institutions, including NIT Srinagar, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, the University of Kashmir, the Central University of Kashmir, Women's College, Srinagar, North Campus of the University of Kashmir, Amar Singh College, and other institutions.
