Mock Drills Conducted at SHAR and Tirupati Airport Amid India-Pakistan Conflict

Mock drills carried out at Sriharikota space centre, Tirupati Airport in Andhra.webp

Amaravati, May 10
In response to the ongoing military tension between India and Pakistan, high-intensity mock drills were conducted on Saturday at two critical infrastructure points in Andhra Pradesh — the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota and the Tirupati International Airport.

Security Drill at Satish Dhawan Space Centre

The mock exercise at SHAR, one of the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) key rocket launch sites, was held from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The operation was aimed at testing the preparedness, coordination, and rapid response of security and emergency teams in the event of a potential threat.

The drill was conducted under the supervision of CISF DIG Sanjay Kumar and involved multiple specialized units, including:
  • CISF Quick Response Team (70 personnel)
  • CISF Bomb Disposal Unit
  • CISF Fire Department
  • On-site medical teams
Additionally, a three-member Intelligence Bureau (IB) team, a two-member marine police team, and local law enforcement also participated. The coordinated effort demonstrated swift communication and effective execution, which is vital for securing the spaceport under emergency conditions.

High-Alert Simulation at Tirupati Airport

Around 11 am, a parallel mock drill was staged at Tirupati International Airport to boost public confidence and test security resilience during a simulated attack.

According to the official release, the scenario involved armed suspects infiltrating the airport and opening fire on passengers, followed by a second duo attempting entry while armed. Security teams quickly neutralized the simulated threat, showcasing operational readiness.

Key participants in the Tirupati Airport drill included:
  • IB personnel
  • Quick Reaction Team (QRT)
  • Bomb Detection Team (BDT)
  • Special party units
  • Local police (15 personnel)
  • CISF (63 personnel)
  • CISF dog squad and an armed reserve dog squad

Heightened Vigilance Amid Conflict

Both drills come amid rising tensions along the border, with Indian and Pakistani forces engaged in ongoing exchanges. The state’s security apparatus is on high alert, and these drills aim to reinforce public safety and institutional preparedness at critical installations.

Officials emphasized that such simulations will continue to be part of a broader strategy to safeguard national assets and ensure seamless emergency responses during volatile geopolitical situations.
