Guwahati, February 14 ( Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive here on Saturday for a day-long visit to poll-bound Assam to inaugurate the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at Moran, launch projects worth Rs 5,450 crore, and address BJP workers, officials said.

This is the Prime Minister's third visit to Assam in three months, where assembly elections are due soon.

"A warm welcome to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to the sacred land of Maa Kamakhya and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev," Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X.

"Assam eagerly awaits the inauguration of landmark projects that will power connectivity, technology, and growth across our state," he said.

The Prime Minister, in a post on X on Thursday night, had said he will be in Assam on Saturday to attend programmes in Dibrugarh and Guwahati.

"At 10:30 AM, I will land at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. This is the first of its kind in the Northeast. It will be important for emergency response, ensuring timely deployment of rescue and relief operations during challenging situations," Modi said.

In the afternoon, various development works will be launched at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati.

"This includes the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu across River Brahmaputra, which will improve connectivity for people in Guwahati and nearby areas. Other projects include the inauguration of a National Data Centre for the North Eastern Region and 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme," he said.

"It is a matter of immense joy for the Northeast that IIM Guwahati will be inaugurated tomorrow. This will strengthen the educational infrastructure in the region and also attract students from all over the nation," the PM said.

Modi said that in the afternoon, he will address Assam BJP Karyakartas in Guwahati.

"A decade ago, the people of Assam blessed BJP-NDA and gave our alliance the opportunity to serve them. In these years, the NDA Government in Assam has worked tirelessly to fulfill the dreams of the people. I am confident that Assam will bless our alliance once again," he said.

The PM is scheduled to arrive at the Chabua airfield in Dibrugarh district at 9:50 am, and fly to the ELF in Moran by an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft to inaugurate the Rs 100 crore, 4.2-km facility.

Modi will also witness a 40-minute aerial display of fighters, transport aircraft, and helicopters.

He will then leave for Guwahati for the second leg of his tour aboard the C-130 from the ELF.

In Guwahati, Modi will inaugurate the Rs 3,030-crore Kumar Vhaskar Varma Setu, connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati.

The six-lane bridge will seamlessly connect Guwahati and North Guwahati, boost regional growth, enhance seismic safety, and accelerate development across the State Capital Region, officials said.

Modi will also inaugurate the temporary campus of the IIM-Guwahati, estimated to be worth Rs 555 crore, and a Rs 348-crore AI-enabled hyperscale data centre from the nearby Lachit Ghat.

The Prime Minister will also flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, which includes 100 for Guwahati, 50 for Nagpur, 50 for Bhavnagar, and 25 for Chandigarh.

Modi will conclude his visit to the state by addressing a public meeting of BJP booth-level workers at the Veterinary University Ground here before flying back to Delhi.

Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and DGP Harmeet Singh held a joint review meeting to assess preparedness for the PM’s visit.

Security, logistical, and inter-agency coordination measures were comprehensively assessed, with a focus on crowd management, traffic regulation, emergency response preparedness, and seamless coordination among civil administration, police, and allied departments, Kota said.
