Karachi, Feb 28: Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has called for a complete overhaul of the national cricket team, emphasizing that the current situation cannot deteriorate any further. His remarks come in the wake of Pakistan's dismal performance in the Champions Trophy, where they failed to secure a single victory despite playing on home soil.

Speaking candidly about Pakistan’s struggles, Moin questioned the persistence with underperforming senior players and urged selectors to adopt a bold approach in team selection.

"I have been listening to many former players, but since we are already losing, why not just build a new team? What is the worst that can happen? We will lose again, but at least we would have tried something different," he stated.
While acknowledging the talent within the squad, the former wicketkeeper-batter insisted that every player must consistently justify their selection. He highlighted the inconsistent policies in team management and criticized the lack of a structured approach to developing young talent.

Moin also addressed the influence of social media on selection decisions, saying,

"When selectors drop a senior or a not-so-senior player, there is immediate backlash. But when the team underperforms, the same players are recalled, and the cycle continues. This approach is leading us nowhere."
He further dismissed concerns over a lack of cricketing talent in Pakistan, pointing out that the real issue lies in failing to provide young players with proper exposure and opportunities.

"The question is, do we even try to fairly and justly groom new players? Why wasn’t Aamer Jamal in the squad? From what I have seen, he has the dedication and passion we need. Did we even give him a fair chance to develop as a white-ball cricketer?"
Moin criticized the selectors for repeatedly recalling players who had already been tested and whose performances had been under scrutiny. He also raised concerns about players being selected for one format based on performances in another, a strategy that he believes has harmed the team’s progress.

As a former chief selector, head coach, and team manager, Moin expressed disappointment over Pakistan’s Champions Trophy failure, labeling it as inexcusable.

"The players let down everyone. It’s time to build a new team for the betterment of Pakistan cricket."
With growing pressure on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take corrective measures, Moin Khan’s call for a revamp could spark discussions on the future direction of the national team.
