Most GenZ voters in Delhi aware of candidates; social media primary source of information: Study

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI): A recent study has revealed that Gen Z voters in Delhi are well-informed and actively engaged in the electoral process, with a majority prioritizing women’s safety, unemployment, and pollution as key concerns ahead of the upcoming assembly elections on February 5.

The study, titled GenZer’s Tryst with Polls, found that 88% of respondents are aware of the candidates in their constituencies, while 71% have participated in previous elections, indicating a high level of civic engagement among young voters aged 18 to 26 years.

Among the most pressing issues, 85% of Gen Z voters cited women’s safety as their top concern, followed by unemployment (60%) and pollution (56%). Additionally, 44% of respondents rated Delhi’s law and order situation as poor.

The study also examined the influence of electoral freebies, with 74% of respondents acknowledging that giveaways impact voting behavior. Regarding information sources, 35% of Gen Z voters rely on social media for election updates, while 26% turn to independent blogs and websites for insights.

Commenting on the findings, Tarundeep Singh, Lead at The 23 Watts Insights Studio, stated, "Contrary to popular belief, young voters in Delhi are well-informed, engaged, and eager to make a difference in the upcoming elections."

With the assembly elections just days away, the study underscores the role of Delhi’s youth in shaping the political landscape, highlighting their awareness and commitment to democratic participation.
