Most Indian workforce believe AI skills will boost career growth: Emeritus study

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to revolutionize workplaces, Indian professionals are emerging as global frontrunners in embracing this technological shift. According to the 2025 Global Workplace Skills Study conducted by Emeritus, nearly 94% of Indian professionals believe that mastering AI skills will accelerate their career growth.

The study highlights a transformative wave of AI integration in India's workforce, driving professionals to upskill in cutting-edge technologies. Conducted across 6,000 respondents in 18 countries, the study surveyed employees from key sectors, including finance and insurance, manufacturing, software & IT services, and education.

India Leads in AI Adoption and Productivity Gains

The findings reveal that Indian professionals are significantly ahead in AI adoption, with 96% actively using AI and generative AI tools at work—far surpassing their global peers. By comparison, the adoption rate stands at 81% in the US and 84% in the UK.

This widespread AI utilization has translated into notable productivity gains, with 95% of Indian professionalsreporting enhanced efficiency due to AI, outpacing the global average.

AI Skills: A Career Essential

Recognizing AI's impact on the job market, Indian professionals are prioritizing AI proficiency as a key career strategy. The study found that:

  • 90% of Indian professionals consider AI and generative AI essential for future career success.
  • 94% view AI expertise as crucial for not just career progression but also cross-industry mobility—well above the global average of 87%.

Machine Learning Among Top Skills

The study further underscores the growing demand for machine learning, ranking it among the top five most sought-after skills in India. Indian professionals are twice as likely as their global counterparts to focus on developing expertise in this domain.
