New Delhi, Feb 28: Electric vehicle manufacturer Motovolt Mobility has won a contract from Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) to supply electric bicycles as part of a government initiative aimed at empowering rural women entrepreneurs.

Under the ‘Sustainable Transport for Rural Entrepreneurs through Electric Cycles’ (STREE) project, Motovolt will provide 1,800 cargo electric bicycles across four states—Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. The initiative is being led by CESL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) under the Union Ministry of Power, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Rural Development.

Empowering Rural Women Through Sustainable Mobility

Motovolt Mobility will play a crucial role in supplying and deploying electric cargo bicycles tailored for rural use. Additionally, the company will assist in training self-help group (SHG) women, ensuring they effectively utilize the electric cycles to enhance their livelihoods.

The initiative is expected to boost mobility, improve access to markets and resources, and promote a clean, sustainable transportation alternative for rural women entrepreneurs.

Commitment to Green Mobility and Economic Growth

Highlighting the impact of the project, Motovolt Mobility Founder and CEO Tushar Choudhary stated,
"This initiative is about creating opportunities for rural women and entrepreneurs, improving their mobility, and fostering economic growth through clean, green solutions. At Motovolt, we believe that empowering these communities with electric mobility is a powerful way to drive change and sustainability at the grassroots level."

Beyond deployment, the programme will focus on raising awareness about electric mobility benefits and building local capacity in underserved regions. Motovolt will collaborate with CESL to ensure effective implementation through State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs) in the respective states.

This initiative aligns with India's broader goals of rural empowerment, sustainable development, and green mobility adoption, reinforcing the government's push towards clean energy solutions.
