Bengaluru, Feb 27: Mumbai Indians (MI) will be seeking redemption as they gear up to face Delhi Capitals (DC) in a crucial Women's Premier League (WPL) encounter on Friday. Having suffered their only defeat in the first leg against DC, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will be eager to continue their dominant run and maintain their top position on the points table.

Mumbai Indians’ Winning Momentum

Since their setback against DC earlier this month in Vadodara, MI have been on a remarkable three-match winning streak. They secured victories against Gujarat Giants (five wickets), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (four wickets), and UP Warriorz (eight wickets). Currently, MI lead the WPL standings with six points from four games, while DC, having played an extra match, are second with the same points.

The batting unit remains MI’s biggest strength. Nat Sciver-Brunt has been the standout performer, amassing 254 runs in four matches with three half-centuries. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur has also been in fine touch, while Hayley Matthews’ return to form—marked by her 59 off 50 balls against UP Warriorz—adds further firepower to the lineup.

However, concerns remain over Yastika Bhatia’s lack of consistency at the top, and Amelia Kerr will be eager to deliver in the middle order. On the bowling front, Sciver-Brunt’s all-round capabilities shone in the last match as she claimed 3 for 18. South African pacer Shabnim Ismail has been a key performer with the new ball, while Amanjot Kaur, Matthews, and Kerr provide balance with their all-round abilities.

Delhi Capitals Seek Consistency

DC, despite being considered pre-tournament favorites, have struggled with consistency, winning three of their five matches. However, they will take confidence from their recent six-wicket win over Gujarat Giants.

The batting order finally clicked in the last match, with Shafali Verma (44) and Jess Jonassen (61)* leading the charge. But concerns persist at the top, with skipper Meg Lanning managing just one significant knock so far. Jemimah Rodrigues and Annabel Sutherland have provided flashes of brilliance in the middle order, but DC will be hoping for more reliability.

Bowling remains DC’s stronghold, with Shikha Pandey, Marizanne Kapp, Titas Sadhu, Sutherland, and Minnu Mani forming a formidable attack.
