Mumbai, March 1: In a large-scale crackdown, the Mumbai police conducted a massive combing operation across 207 locations, including gambling dens and illegal liquor outlets, resulting in multiple arrests and legal actions, an official confirmed on Saturday.
The extensive operation, which began late on Friday night and continued into the early hours of Saturday, was executed with the involvement of 13 deputy commissioners of police, 41 assistant commissioners, senior police inspectors, and personnel from five different city regions.
During the operation, authorities apprehended 12 wanted criminals, issued non-bailable warrants against 46 individuals, and executed standing warrants for 25 others. Additionally, firearms were seized from 16 individuals, and 54 people were booked under the Mumbai Police Act. The crackdown also led to 15 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while 14 gambling and liquor dens were raided.
As part of the operation, police set up 113 road checkpoints (nakabandis), inspecting 6,901 vehicles. This resulted in 1,891 individuals being penalized under the Motor Vehicles Act, while 70 drivers faced legal action for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Mumbai police continue to intensify their efforts against illegal activities in the city, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining law and order.
