Mumbai University Misspells City's Name as 'Mumabai' on Graduation Certificates; Promises Immediate Correction

Mumbai, March 1, 2025: In an unexpected error causing significant embarrassment, Mumbai University mistakenly issued graduation certificates bearing the incorrect spelling "University of Mumabai," instead of "Mumbai."

During the academic year 2023-24, around 1.64 lakh students graduated from Mumbai University. However, the exact number of graduates who received the faulty certificates remains undisclosed.

Acknowledging the error, an official from Mumbai University stated, "Due to a printing error, some certificates had this typo. We are rectifying it." The university assured that it is addressing the issue promptly and will issue corrected certificates to all affected students free of charge.

Graduates who have received the erroneous certificates will receive replacements shortly, the official confirmed.

This incident has drawn attention to the university's certificate issuance process, highlighting the need for stringent quality checks to avoid future occurrences.
