Mumbai, Feb 3 (PTI): The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to unveil its budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 on Tuesday, marking the third consecutive year that it will be presented to an administrator instead of the traditional standing committee, an official confirmed.
Since the term of municipal corporators ended on March 7, 2022, the civic body has been functioning under an administrator. In this year's proceedings, additional municipal commissioners will present the budget to administrator-cum-civic chief Bhushan Gagrani.
According to an official release, Abhijit Bangar, additional municipal commissioner (projects), will present the overall budget estimates for 2025-26. Prior to that, Amit Saini, additional municipal commissioner (eastern suburbs), will present the education department’s budget estimates to the administrator-cum-commissioner.
The BMC, regarded as the wealthiest civic body in India, had a budget of ₹59,954.75 crore for 2024-25, reflecting a 10.5% increase from the previous fiscal year.
More details on the budget estimates for 2025-26 will be revealed during the presentation on Tuesday.
