Murder Accused Arrested in Palghar After 15 Years on the Run.webp

Thane, May 13 — A 66-year-old man who had been absconding for 15 years in connection with a murder case was finally arrested by the police in Maharashtra's Palghar district, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Santosh Dehu Kurhade, was apprehended last week in the Wada area following a tip-off, according to Dr D S Swami, Superintendent of Police, Thane Rural.

Kurhade was wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of Suresh Ravji Wagh, who was beaten to death on June 5, 2009. As per police reports, the murder was a result of a dispute, during which Kurhade and two accomplices allegedly assaulted Wagh fatally.

Following the incident, a case was registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including:
  • Section 302: Murder
  • Section 324: Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means
  • Section 504: Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace
While the two other accused were arrested earlier, Kurhade had managed to evade arrest for over a decade and a half until his recent capture.

The arrest brings a significant breakthrough in the long-pending case, and further legal proceedings are expected to follow.
