Muzaffarnagar (UP), February 14 A 27-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her residence here after her husband allegedly refused to buy her a new mobile phone, police said on Saturday.

Initial investigations suggest this was a case of suicide, they said.

The incident occurred on Friday in Khedi Sarai village, under the jurisdiction of the Mirapur police station, and the deceased has been identified as Radhika (27), wife of Ashish Sharma.

SHO of Mirapur, Rajiv Sharma, told reporters that upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and sent the body of the deceased for post-mortem examination.

The deceased had reportedly demanded a new mobile phone from her husband, who had gone to Odisha for work. Her husband, Ashish, had only sent Rs 2,000, while she was demanding Rs 10,000, according to Ashish's mother, Premo.

The deceased is survived by a three-year-old son.
