Aizawl, Feb 3 (PTI) – A 56-year-old Myanmar national was arrested with a significant quantity of heroin in Mizoram’s Champhai district, near the India-Myanmar border, on Monday, an official reported.
According to authorities, a vehicle used for transporting the narcotics was also seized during the operation. The confiscated heroin is estimated to be worth approximately ₹82.5 lakh in the illicit market.
The Assam Rifles, in an official statement, confirmed that both the arrested individual and the seized contraband have been handed over to the state police for further investigation and legal action.
Champhai district, due to its proximity to the Myanmar border, has been a hotspot for illegal drug trafficking, prompting frequent anti-narcotics operations by law enforcement agencies.
