New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI): Union Health Minister J P Nadda has urged the Maharashtra government to work in coordination with the Centre to investigate and prevent future outbreaks of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) in the state.

Chairing a high-level meeting via video conference, Nadda discussed the recent surge in GBS cases with Maharashtra's Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, Minister of Medical Education Hasan Mushrif, and Minister of Jal Shakti Gulab Raghunath Rao Patil. Also present at the meeting were Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav and senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

During the discussion, Maharashtra government officials provided an update on the situation, detailing the public health measures taken to control the outbreak. According to health ministry sources, Nadda commended the state’s efforts, assuring them that the situation is contained and under constant surveillance.

Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment, the Union Minister promised full support to Maharashtra in managing the disease effectively.

The sudden rise in GBS cases has raised concerns, prompting a coordinated response to identify possible causes and prevent further occurrences. Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the nerves, leading to muscle weakness and, in severe cases, paralysis.

The Health Ministry continues to monitor developments closely, ensuring necessary interventions to safeguard public health.
