February 13, New Delhi – A total of over 29 lakh households have installed solar capacity, with 87,000 households in Assam.
One such household in Assam is in Nadighala Gaon, Dibrugarh, which has benefited from the scheme.
The biggest advantage of the scheme is that it provides a subsidy of up to 40% for rooftop solar panel installation and offers collateral-free, low-interest loans for up to 3 kW residential rooftop solar systems.
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, or the Free Electricity Scheme, is rapidly becoming a game-changer in India's push for clean energy. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, the initiative is not limited to electricity generation alone; it is a major step towards savings, environmental protection, and self-reliance. Within just two years of its implementation, positive results are emerging across the country.
The scheme aims to provide up to 300 units of free electricity monthly to beneficiaries, reduce power bills, and promote environmental sustainability. It supports energy self-reliance and is transforming lives through widespread adoption at the grassroots level.
