Hyderabad, February 10 A man is accused of raping and killing his mother-in-law in the Nagarkurnool district, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on the night of February 8 in the Kalwakurthy mandal, when the elderly woman was alone in her house.
The accused, in his 40s and a labourer, who was reportedly addicted to alcohol, allegedly raped his mother-in-law, who was in her mid-60s, and then murdered her at their home, according to a complaint filed by the victim's daughter and the accused's wife with the police.
The elderly woman is suspected to have been attacked by the accused, resulting in her death, a police official said, adding that further investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
Police stated that the accused appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Kalwakurthy police station, and the accused has been taken into custody, police added.
