Bengaluru, May 15 — The much-anticipated Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro is likely to become operational by June, pending final regulatory approvals, according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director Maheshwar Rao M.

“We are trying our best to get it running by June,” Rao said, noting that operations may be pushed to July in the worst-case scenario.

Yellow Line: Connecting South Bengaluru and Electronics City

The Yellow Line, which runs from RV Road to Bommasandra, has faced several delays, primarily due to setbacks in the arrival of driverless train sets. Once operational, the line is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion by connecting southern Bengaluru, including Electronics City, to the broader metro network.

The first set of 'Made in India' driverless trains arrived in January from the Titagarh factory in Uttarpara, West Bengal. A third set was delivered to the Hebbagodi depot on May 13, and two more are scheduled to arrive by the end of July or early August.

Limited Services to Begin with Three Trains

BMRCL plans to start operations with just three train sets, running every 30 minutes. According to BMRCL sources, services will be limited to five key stations.

Earlier, Rao had indicated a mid-May launch target, but recent developments have shifted that timeline slightly. Despite the delays, the partial commencement of services in June is expected to offer commuters much-needed relief and mark a major milestone in the city’s metro expansion.
