Thane, February 3 (PTI) – Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik has announced that the Navi Mumbai International Airport will be officially named after late D B Patil, a prominent leader of project-affected persons (PAPs), once commercial operations commence.
Naik made the statement during a janta darbar (public hearing) in Vashi, where Atul Patil, son of D B Patil, urged the government to honor his father by naming the airport after him. In response, Naik assured that the demand would be fulfilled.
Additionally, Naik pledged to take up key concerns of PAPs, including their demand for freehold status for Low-Income Group (LIG) and Middle-Income Group (MIG) lands, as well as uniform land regularisation rates, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport project began construction in February 2018, and in 2022, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had decided to name it “Loknete Swargiya D B Patil International Airport”.
According to a senior executive from Adani Airports Holding Ltd (AAHL), the airport is slated for inauguration on April 17, 2025, with commercial operations expected to commence in the second week of May.
In December last year, a commercial flight test was successfully conducted when an IndiGo A320 aircraft landed on runway 08/26, marking a significant milestone for the project.
