Six Duped with Fake Shipping Job Offers and Fabricated Agreements

Thane, May 18 — A case has been registered against a Navi Mumbai-based placement agency for allegedly duping six individuals of a total of Rs 16.8 lakh under the pretense of securing jobs in shipping companies, police said on Sunday.

According to the Thane police, the agency allegedly provided forged employment agreements and job bonds to make the offers appear legitimate. These documents were used to convince the victims of the authenticity of the promised job placements.

An FIR was registered on Thursday under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to cheating, following a complaint filed by one of the affected individuals.

The police stated that four people have been named in the case, accused of conspiring to defraud the victims. Despite collecting the money and handing over fake documents, no actual job placements materialized.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made so far.
