Bijapur, February 12 Security forces successfully defused two powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Naxalites in separate locations in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, an official said.
The memorial built by Naxalites for their deceased leader, Basavaraju, on the banks of the Indravati river in the Mad area, under the Kutru police station limits, was also demolished by the security forces, he added.
"A powerful 30-kilogram IED, buried two feet below the Avapalli-Murdanda road to target security personnel, was defused. It was hidden five feet inside a foxhole dug along the road. Efforts were made to safely remove the IED, but due to its depth, it was destroyed on the spot," said Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav.
Another 5-kilogram IED was also detected and defused in the dense forest area of Todka-Korcholi and Peddakorma, within the Gangalur police station limits, he added.
The Bomb Disposal Squad of the security forces successfully defused both IEDs, Yadav said.
