Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), Feb 4 (PTI): In a gruesome act of violence, Naxalites killed two villagers in Bugdicheru village under Tarrem police station limits in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday night, police reported on Tuesday.
According to preliminary investigations, unidentified Naxalites slit the throats of Karam Raju (32) and Madvi Munna (27) using sharp-edged weapons. Both victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot, a police official confirmed. Upon receiving information, a police team was dispatched to the location on Tuesday morning. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
This brutal attack follows a pattern of recent Naxal violence in the region. On January 26, Naxalites killed a 41-year-old man in Bhairamgarh, accusing him of leaking information about the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). Similarly, on January 16, a 48-year-old man was murdered in Mirtur, suspected of being a police informer.
The ongoing Naxal insurgency continues to take a heavy toll on civilians. According to police records, 68 civilians were killed in separate Naxal-related incidents across the Bastar region last year. The affected area, which includes seven districts such as Bijapur, remains a hotspot of Maoist activities.
Authorities are on high alert as efforts to curb Naxal violence intensify in the region.
