Pune, February 9 The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) retained control of the Pune Zilla Parishad on Monday, winning 51 out of 73 seats, following the death of party leader Ajit Pawar in a plane crash a few days prior. The BJP won 10 seats, followed by six for the Shiv Sena (UBT), five for the Shiv Sena, and one for the NCP (SP). The Congress failed to secure any seats. The NCP won all six seats in the Baramati group, as well as all eight in Indapur. In the Panchayat Samiti elections, the NCP won 78 out of 146 seats, while the results for 12 seats from the Haveli group are still awaited, according to district officials. The death of Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in Baramati on January 28 led parties to scale back their campaigning as a mark of respect for the deceased leader.
