New Delhi, March 1: Two-time Olympic medallist and javelin star Neeraj Chopra has extended his support to the Indian government's 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' initiative, emphasising its dual benefits of enhancing personal fitness and combating environmental pollution.
In a message released by the Ministry of Sports, Chopra encouraged people across the nation to dedicate their Sundays to cycling, highlighting how a simple habit can significantly contribute to overall well-being.
"Namaste! 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' is a fantastic way to improve one's fitness and to contribute towards controlling pollution. So, I would like to tell you that please indulge in cycling every Sunday, if you are not able to find time every day," said Chopra.
Promoting Health and Fighting Obesity
The nationwide cycling initiative was originally launched on December 17 last year by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. The core aim of the program aligns with the government's broader vision—'Fitness ka dose, aadha ghanta roz' (Daily dose of fitness for 30 minutes). This weekend's campaign specifically addresses the rising concern of obesity, reinforcing the government's commitment to improving public health through regular physical activity.
Nationwide Impact and Enthusiastic Participation
Since its inception, 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' has been successfully organised across more than 4,200 locations nationwide, attracting participation from over 2 lakh individuals. The initiative has witnessed remarkable enthusiasm, signifying growing public awareness and active engagement toward fitness and environmental consciousness. With an influential figure like Neeraj Chopra now supporting the campaign, it is anticipated to gain further momentum, inspiring many more citizens to embrace cycling as an integral part of their weekly routine.
