Doha, May 11 – Reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will headline a historic Indian presence at the Doha leg of the prestigious Diamond League Meeting on May 16, marking the country's highest-ever participation in a single Diamond League event.
Chopra, who claimed victory at the same venue in 2023 with a throw of 88.67m and secured second place in 2024 with 88.36m, will compete once again in the men's javelin throw. He will be joined by fellow Indian athlete Kishore Jena, who returns to Doha after finishing ninth last year with a throw of 76.31m.
The men’s javelin throw event boasts a stellar lineup including two-time world champion and Paris Olympics bronze medalist Anderson Peters of Grenada, defending 2024 winner Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, Julian Weber and Max Dehning of Germany, Kenya's Julius Yego, and Roderick Genki Dean from Japan.
Expanding India’s footprint beyond javelin, national record holder Gulveer Singh will make his Diamond League debut in the men’s 5000m event. Adding to the milestone, Parul Chaudhary, India's national record holder in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, will also be in action.
This unprecedented representation signals a growing Indian presence on the global athletics stage, as all eyes turn to Doha for high-stakes performances ahead of the Paris Olympics.
