New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – Newly appointed Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Gyanendra Pratap Singh, has outlined his vision for the over 3 lakh-strong paramilitary force, emphasizing strict action against sexual misconduct and corruption, according to official sources.
In his first interaction with force commanders, Singh stressed a "nation first" approach, followed by the welfare of both the organization and its personnel. He made it clear that any violations of discipline, particularly misconduct against female personnel and corruption affecting jawans, would be met with ruthless action and stringent consequences.
Prioritizing Personnel Well-being
Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, took charge as CRPF DG on January 30. Previously, he served as the Director General of Assam Police. In his initial directives, he underscored the importance of compassion, leadership, and creating an enabling environment for personnel and their families.Reducing stress levels within the force will be a top priority, a senior official said. He also directed senior officers to ensure transparency in human resource management and timely implementation of welfare schemes, including continuous support for families of martyred and retired personnel.
Singh has zero tolerance for sexual misconduct and corruption, warning that offenders would face the harshest penalties. Additionally, he emphasized the need for hygiene and cleanliness in all CRPF offices and directed the provision of proper toilet facilities for women personnel, particularly during law and order duties.
Strategic Focus on Left Wing Extremism in Bastar
Following his appointment, Singh embarked on a strategic visit to Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, a key battleground in the government's effort to eliminate Left Wing Extremism (LWE) by March 2026.During his visit, the CRPF chief inspected forward operating bases (FOBs), CoBRA commando units, and remote CRPF battalion bases. He also met with local residents, reinforcing the force's two-pronged strategy: conducting anti-Naxal operations while simultaneously building trust with tribal communities through medical camps and distribution of essential household items.
CRPF’s Nationwide Security Role
The CRPF remains India's primary force for internal security, operating across three major conflict zones:- LWE-affected areas (like Bastar)
- Counter-terrorism operations in Jammu & Kashmir
- Counter-insurgency efforts in Northeast India
With Singh at the helm, the CRPF is set to intensify its internal discipline, personnel welfare, and operational efficiency, ensuring that its role in maintaining national security is executed with integrity and professionalism.
