Palghar, Feb 5 (PTI) – A Nigerian national was arrested in Palghar district, Maharashtra, after police seized drugs worth Rs 26.18 lakh from his possession, authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The individual, who was found to be staying in India illegally, was apprehended by a team from the local police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell.
The arrest took place on Monday in the Vijaylakshmi Nagar area of Vasai, where the suspect was seen moving in a suspicious manner. Following a thorough search, police recovered 1.497 kilograms of ephedrine, valued at Rs 20.99 lakh, and 17.3 grams of cocaine worth Rs 5.19 lakh.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Madan Ballal, revealed that the Nigerian national, of Ghanaian origin, could not provide any valid documentation for his stay in India. As a result, he was arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as well as the Foreigners Act, for violating immigration laws.
The investigation continues as police work to uncover further details related to the suspect’s activities.
