New Delhi, March 1: NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), a leading state-owned energy company, announced on Saturday that it has secured a significant contract from SJVN Ltd to develop and operate a 200 MW wind power project.

This renewable energy project was awarded through an e-reverse auction at a competitive tariff of Rs 3.74 per kWh, demonstrating NLCIL's growing expertise in renewable energy solutions.

Promoting Green Energy and Sustainability

The new wind energy initiative is projected to generate approximately 526 million units (MU) of clean and green electricity annually. This substantial energy output will directly offset an equivalent amount of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing significantly to India's environmental sustainability goals.

Chairman and Managing Director of NLC India Ltd, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, highlighted the strategic importance of this project:

"Winning this 200 MW wind project further strengthens our commitment to sustainable and clean energy solutions. Our investments in renewable energy will play a crucial role in strengthening India's green economy and meeting global climate commitments."

Accelerating NLCIL’s Renewable Energy Portfolio

This recent achievement underscores NLCIL’s ongoing commitment to renewable energy expansion, aligning with its ambitious target to achieve 10 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030.

The company's renewable energy journey commenced with a modest 51 MW wind project in 2013, and this latest contract significantly enhances its portfolio. The addition of the newly secured project elevates NLCIL’s total wind power capacity to over 300 MW, including projects currently in development.

Aligning with National Green Energy Policy

The secured wind power project not only amplifies NLCIL’s renewable energy capabilities but also aligns seamlessly with India's broader environmental objectives, particularly the government's commitment to increasing non-fossil fuel-based power generation. India's ambitious goal, set under the National Green Energy Policy, aims to achieve a massive 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

This strategic move by NLCIL marks another pivotal step towards realizing India's renewable energy ambitions and fostering a sustainable future.
